Smoky BBQ Cabbage Steaks

Ingredients
  

  • 1 large green cabbage cut into 1-inch thick steaks
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 cup BBQ sauce your favorite variety
  • 2 tbsp honey or maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup shredded Parmesan cheese for Parmesan Cabbage Steaks
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese optional, for Cheesy Cabbage Steaks
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions
 

Prep the cabbage:

  1. Remove any damaged outer leaves and slice the cabbage into 1-inch thick steaks or wedges, depending on your preference for Baked Cabbage Steaks or Baked Cabbage Wedges.

Season generously

  1. In a bowl, mix olive oil, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Brush both sides of the cabbage steaks with the seasoning mixture.

Roasting method

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F. Arrange cabbage steaks on a lined baking sheet. Roast for 20 minutes, then brush BBQ sauce and honey (or maple syrup) over each steak. Return to the oven for another 5 minutes until caramelized.

Grilling method

  1. For Cabbage Steaks Grilled, preheat a grill to medium heat. Grill each side for about 5 minutes, brushing with BBQ sauce in the final minutes.

Cheesy variation

  1. For Cheesy Cabbage Steaks, sprinkle Parmesan and cheddar cheese over the cabbage steaks before the final 5 minutes of cooking.

Serve and garnish

  1. Remove from the oven or grill, garnish with fresh parsley, and serve hot!
