Instructions
Prep the filet mignon
Cut the filet into bite-sized cubes. In a bowl, combine soy sauce, sesame oil, mirin, and garlic to make a simple hibachi steak marinade. Toss the filet pieces in and let them soak while you prep the rest.
Cook the vegetables
Heat sesame oil and butter in a hot skillet or wok. Add the zucchini and onions with a splash of soy sauce. Stir-fry for about 5–7 minutes, until tender and caramelized. Season with salt and pepper and set aside. This quick hibachi vegetables recipe is great with nearly any protein.
Sear the steak
In a very hot skillet, heat oil. Add the marinated filet cubes in a single layer. Sear undisturbed for 1–2 minutes per side to get a good crust. Add butter and toss to coat as they finish cooking—medium-rare to medium is ideal for filet mignon.
Make the sauce (optional)
Mix all sauce ingredients until smooth. Serve on the side for dipping or drizzle over your finished hibachi bowls.
Assemble and serve
Spoon the sizzling steak and veggies into shallow bowls. Pair with garlic fried rice or steamed jasmine rice for the full hibachi steak and fried rice experience. A little sauce on top makes it restaurant-level good.
