Equipment

  • Spoon for stuffing
  • Knife and Cutting Board
  • Small brush for oil
  • Skillet for cooking sausage

Ingredients

  • 6 banana peppers halved and deseeded
  • 1/2 pound Italian sausage mild or spicy
  • 4 oz cream cheese softened
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese plus extra for topping
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese plus extra for topping
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Cooking spray

Instructions

Prepare the Peppers

  1. Slice the banana peppers in half lengthwise and remove the seeds and membranes. Set them aside.

Cook the Sausage

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the Italian sausage until fully browned and no longer pink. Drain any excess grease and let it cool slightly.

Make the Filling

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the cooked sausage, cream cheese, mozzarella, Parmesan, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until fully combined.

Stuff the Peppers

  1. Using a spoon, evenly fill each banana pepper half with the sausage mixture. Smooth out the top for even cooking.

Add Cheese and Crunch

  1. Sprinkle extra shredded mozzarella and Parmesan over the stuffed peppers. Then, mix the panko breadcrumbs with olive oil and sprinkle over the top to create a crispy topping.

Air Fry to Perfection

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray, then arrange the stuffed banana peppers in a single layer. Air fry for 10-12 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and the sausage is heated through.

Serve & Enjoy

  1. Let the stuffed banana peppers cool slightly before serving. Enjoy them on their own or with a side of marinara sauce for dipping.
