We have all been to those holiday parties where the only food to really enjoy is packed to the brim with calories, or so greasy that you can practically see yourself grimacing at the thought of eating it in the reflection of the oil. Don’t be that person that brings food you are going to regret eating, and force others into facing the same dilemma!
A simple question to ask yourself is, ‘am I going to loathe myself tomorrow for having made the decision to eat this food.’ If the answer is yes, do not prepare anything like that! In fact, when approached with compromising temptations, it is important to realize as a general life principle that there are many other pleasures you can indulge in without the guilt. One way you can enjoy yourself, for instance, is by rewarding your choice to eat good foods, thus reinforcing the habit for future decisions, by doing something fun, like having a glass of wine.
Mobile casino-themed events and other fun motifs are just some examples of how to host your unique party. Just remember that most parties typically have greasy foods readily available at your disposal. In essence, not only will you be eating well, but you’ll set your party above the riff-raff of food platters that other fiestas offer.
With that out of the way, let’s never look back at the tempting sweets and greasy appetisers and look forward to some healthy snacks you can make at a party!
This Italian classic is simple and delicious. Comprised of essentially a toasted and sliced baguette with a mix of diced tomatoes, garlic, basil, and some olive oil sprinkled on top for good measure, it is hard to screw this one up. Plus, it looks simply incredible when on display as part of the spread!
Mint and Pea Hummus over Flatbread
Hummus is of course a popular, filling dip that people love to bring to parties. Distinguish yourself with a colourful hummus concoction consisting of the typical hummus ingredients – tahini, salt, chickpeas, water – and through in a bit of mint and green peas for good measure. On flatbread (or any type cracker really) this goes great.
Grilled Zucchini Spirals with Parmesan Pesto
If you don’t feel like making half of the recipe, the pesto part, luckily for you it is easy to go to the store and simply buy some. The culinary creativity is in the mix of zucchini and the pesto. Simply slice the veggie up very thinly, then throw them on the grill. They will not need long on each side because they are so thin, so be sure to keep an eye out to not burn it. The, lather a bit of pesto over the top and roll it up. Rinse and repeat until you have a full platter ready to wow your friends with its healthy-looking presentation.
Veggies and Dip
This one is a classic, but for good reason. There are few things healthier than munching down on raw vegetables. They are loaded with vitamins and minerals, help clean out the ‘ol chute with all that fibre, and an underrated aspect is that their crunchiness helps keeps the dentures clean. Load up with carrots, broccoli, cherry tomatoes, cauliflower… really just let your imagination go wild!
