This week is CHERRY WEEK on The Hungry Goddess – I have a few cherry posts coming (PLUS, A GIVEAWAY!), compliments of the wonderful folks at Whole Foods who furnished me with the most delicious, fresh cherries of the season! Everyone knows that the Hungry Goddess loves cherries and the height of the season is the best time to indulge. I grabbed bags of sweet cherries and Rainier cherries and worked really hard not to eat them all.
I have been on a smoothie roll for a few months now as a viable breakfast alternative and fuel for my day. Mostly, I stick to a peach and banana smoothie and dump in my greens. It’s yummy and does the job, but I have been feeling a bit bored. Not anymore.
Hello Cherries. And Banana. And Cacao Powder!
The Cherry Chocolate Banana smoothie is simple – the only prep time is pitting the cherries. I do it with my fingers after finding that the pitter gadget took more time. Toss it in the blender and you have an anti-oxidant rich smoothie to keep you going! Frozen cherries work well too and the Whole Foods 365 brand of frozen cherries are excellent.
Three things to do this week:
- Check back for more CHERRY RECIPES this week.
- Enter the Whole Foods $50 Gift Card Giveaway.
- Make the Smoothie.
Wishing you a wonderful week!
Ingredients (One Serving):
- 1 1/2 cups fresh cherries (stemmed and pitted)
- 1/2 cup almond milk
- 1 ripe banana
- 2 tablespoons Cacao Powder (Navitas Naturals is the brand I love)
- Bee Pollen garnish (optional)
Stem and pit the cherries. Add cherries and almond milk to the blender and blend. Add banana and two tablespoons of cacao powder and blend again. Pour into a glass and enjoy! I love adding Bee Pollen to my smoothies but that is completely optional.
**Thank you to Whole Foods for funding my recipe adventures with CHERRIES this week!
