It is just not possible that October is steaming so quickly towards November. Time flies – whether you are having fun or not. Thankfully, I am doing my level best to have some FUN! I have been a bit sidetracked and not posting too regularly because a few days after my birthday, my Mom fell and broke her hip. We are hoping she is well enough to come home next week but it has been a busy few weeks for her with surgery and going to a rehab.
I would like to jump on a HUGE soapbox at this point and just comment on the lack of nutrition and overall appeal of the food in the rehab facility. For people who have broken bones, strokes, a multitude of health issues, it is shocking to me that Nutritionists in these facilities are not providing healthier and more appetizing choices. We have been supplementing here and there with my Mom – I took her a full roast turkey dinner with stuffing and veggies this past week, plus healthy smoothies, but the food she gets there is appalling. Something for Nutritional Consultants to think about – how can we make our patients HEALTHIER and heal faster with food?? This should be a TOP priority.
The past few weeks have included some amazing meals out for my birthday and other events. The posts will be coming out this week but I want to share a few highlights …
To begin the droolfest, I had my birthday lunch with the ever-awesome Eleanor Hoh (Wok Star) and we went to Preservation in Sunny Isles, owned by Chef Ryan and Nicole. Since I am restricting my sugar these days, I jokingly said I wanted a salami cake for my birthday. Chef Ryan delivered – I was floored AND I ate my face off – and you can read the full review on Monday. Preservation is my new fall HOT SPOT. and winter. and spring.
For my birthday dinner, we stayed local instead of heading to South Beach and it worked out deliciously. Please meet the creamy fried ball of goat cheese that comprised one of the BEST Goat Cheese and Beet salads that I have ever had! Jimmy’s Bistro in Delray Beach was intimate, had the perfect bistro atmosphere and had outstanding food. What more can you ask?? Read the full review next week!
I ended my birthday weekend of eating with a group dinner at Rebel House in Boca Raton. Betsy from Desserts Required is not only a master in the kitchen but she hosts Road Trips for Food and the Rebel House visit coincided with my birthday weekend. We ate. then we ate some more. and then MORE. My kind of evening … I only wish the lighting had been better for photos to show off the food – I guess I will have to go back. Review coming! One of my faves was the Tuna Crudo – Spicy Tune Chop Chop:
Most recently, I had brunch at dba cafe in Fort Lauderdale with two excellent brunch companions – Maria from Adventures of The Foodaholic and Aileen from Union Planters Plaza where dba cafe is located. (Aileen also blogs at Newsy Parents). Over our good-to-the-last-bite brunch, we began planning an event at dba cafe for November – I am SO excited. Officially now, dba has the BEST home fries in the universe and the chorizo and gruyere omelette was perfection. Details and post coming – you don’t want to miss this!
