For my parent’s generation, the day that JFK was shot was a day that they would never forget. I had to do a report for school and I consulted my parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles who all remembered with crystal clarity exactly where they were and what they were doing at the moment we lost a President. For my generation, for every American, and for many around the world, 9/11/2001 was the moment that we would never forget. For me, I had just dropped my son off at preschool and was on the way to the hospital where I worked when the liver reporter on the radio began shrieking about the second plane. It was bone-chilling. The day passed for me … for all of us, in a haze of disbelief, fear and sorrow. We will never forget. Never.
To the victims of 9/11, for their families and friends, to all of the soldiers who were sent off to war as a result of that day and their families, I stand in awe of your strength and dedication to our country. We will never forget. We will never stop remembering. And in our memories, all of those lives live again and, hopefully, one day, ease a tiny bit of loss.
When I am upset, I like to cook. Since #HGEATS fell on 9/11 this year, I could not think of any better way to offer a celebration of LIFE than to have an All American Chat to share our traditions from around this beautiful country. The USA is such a melting pot but there are some ALL AMERICAN dishes that are exclusively made in the USA and many of them are listed below from the awesome bloggers from my Facebook group.
I would like to throw a few of my All American faves into the mix as well. After all, where would be without dishes like Lobster Rolls or Turkey Roulade with Peach and Sage Gravy? Or how about iconic Grilled Bison? The one cocktail that was a recent creation is for sure something that we would only find in America – Glazed Donuts liqueur with which I made my absolute favorite Donuts with Coffee and Cream Cocktail.
May you and all of your families be blessed and may we hold those families who have lost loved ones in a big hug as they struggle through this week. Food, friends, and a celebration of the amazing things about our country – that will do for me on 9/11. Thank you to all of the bloggers who shared recipes – please stop and say hello! And if you are free, join us for the #HGEATS All American Food Celebration at 12n on Wednesday, September 11.
