HGEATS Edibles – Flu Busters, Pubbelly Blitz & Fermentation

HGEATS Edibles - weekly food picks from The Hungry GoddessHello, Darling Hungry Goddess Readers!  It has been a crazy week on the personal side of things for me this week … if challenges were raindrops, I had a full on blizzard this week right here in South Florida.  What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger so I should be ready for a triathlon soon!

I would like to invite our Hungry Goddess readers to join us at the relaunch of our Sister Site – Wisdom Laughter Healing, Journey of the Inspired Woman.  We are adding incredible Inspired Women as Collaborators to share stories, tips and practices to create your life Wholistically.   Our new community is also beginning on Google+ - Journey of the Inspired Woman – see you there!

In my trips through the blogosphere this week, I picked up some great links that I wanted to share with you.

FLU-BUSTING FOOD

The Flu was an unwelcome guest in my home a few weeks ago and we applied some good old-fashioned Flu-Busting Food.  Since Flu season is far from over, check out some of these recipes to ward off the plague at your door and stay healthy!

  • Tom Kha Gai – Thai Chicken Soup:  Full of healthful herbs and spices, this Chicken Soup will warm your body and soul!
  • Spiced Turmeric Milk by Cooking with Books:  Turmeric is an anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory rich spice – I LOVE this application!
  • Feed a Fever Recipes from Leites Culinaria: Reading Leites Culinaria always makes me feel good so these recipes are a double whammy of goodness!
  • Vegetable Flu Buster Soup from Cupcakes & Kale Chips:  This soup is all about the power of VEGGIES!

FERMENTATION

I have a slight obsession with kimchi and one of my food goals for 2013 is to learn how to make proper kimchi.  I also want to increase my natural consumption of probiotics and that is where fermentation comes in – the GOOD bacteria.

Ask and You Shall Receive – Sarah Britton on My New Roots did a FABU article on Fabulous Fermentation Week – Kimchi … I will let you know how my kimchi turns out!

Endive Salad from the Hungry Goddess

WORDS TO EAT

I was tickled beyond belief to have my Endive Salad featured on Organic Spa Living – YUM!

Katja Presnal of Skimbaco Lifestyle did an awesome interview with our favorite Sugar Goddess, Jenny Ford from Sugar Loco.  Also, Katja is in Paris so we are looking for some divine pics and posts from the City of Light!

LOCAL HAPPENINGS – SOUTH FLORIDA

My favorite Restaurant Group – Pubbelly – just opened their 5th restaurant (in 3 years!!).  Pubbelly Steak is open for business and starting a Sunday brunch on January 27.  A few of the brunch menu items to make me drooooooool and ensure that I am SO THERE:  foie gras brulee with blueberry marmalade and warm brioche; blue crab bread pudding Florentine with poached egg, spinach and hollandaise; soft scrambled eggs with oysters, caviar, creme fraiche and leeks; pumpkin pie pancakes with pecan butter, bourbon maple and foie mousse; fried sweetbreads and waffles with fennel salad and soy maple.  Do I adore those Pubbelly boys????  YES.  I DO.

Swank Specialty Produce ib Loxahatchee has SWANK TABLES happening – the one that you do not want to miss is the HOT PINK LUNCH on February 10 benefiting the Breast Cancer Research Foundation with renowned female Guest Chefs and food that will make you roll in the field.  Convenient since that is where you eat!
