#HGEATS Stone Fruits of Summer gives me the urge to play Don Henley – The Boys of Summer. These are the last few weeks of summer for some locales (not here in Florida, it never ends here). Bounties are bursting and harvests are being harvested.
So, what’s a stone fruit anyway? Technically, the name for a stone fruit is drupe (sounds like droop) and it is any thin-skinned, fleshy fruit with hard stone or pit in the middle. Peaches, apricots, cherries, plums and nectarines are all stone fruits or drupe fruits.
The best part of stone fruits is that they belong in a cocktail, a salad, a soup, a gazpacho. We crave them sweet and savory – who doesn’t love a peach pie, plum tart or cherry cobbler???
#HGEATS is all about the ways we can use the Stone Fruits so we can make the most out of summer!
